The Causes and Effects of Shoulder Impingement

Poor Posture

Having a poor posture while sitting at a table, cooking, driving, or reading would play a part in the occurrence of shoulder impingement. In these positions, you would round, slouch, or hunch the shoulders. This could reduce the subacromial space between the rotator cuff and acromion, which makes the tendon rub against your shoulder’s padding and causes impingement. In addition, when you are used to being in poor postures for an extended period, it would result in shoulder instability. Therefore, this part can be more susceptible to dislocation, a major risk factor of shoulder impingement. [5]
