The 5 Different Types of Schizophrenia

Residual Schizophrenia

Residual schizophrenia can be a little bit tricky form of schizophrenia. It has been used when patients have a previous diagnosis of this mental condition but they no longer have any considerable signs. In addition, the symptoms tend to become subside in intensity. Residual schizophrenia is often characterized by more negative signs. These include poor hygiene, slowed speech, psychomotor troubles, as well as flattened affect. Many patients with this subtype often go through periods in which their symptoms go up and down. Intensity and frequency can also vary a lot. For these reasons, many experts do not use this designation in diagnosis anymore.[4]
