Linear Gingival Erythema – An Overview

Other Dental Issues in People with HIV

Along with linear gingival erythema, other opportunistic conditions are also prevalent in those people with HIV. This is mainly because the virus is very effective in weakening the immune system and makes it easier for yeast and bacteria to attack the body. Other common dental issues linked to HIV include thrush, dry mouth, ulcerative periodontitis, white lesions on their tongue, mouth ulcers, canker sores, outbreaks of herpes simplex virus, or Kaposi sarcoma. To reduce the risk, therefore, people with HIV should take preventive measures and maintain good dental hygiene. [7]
