Hyponatremia – Symptoms & Causes

Syndrome of Inappropriate Anti-Diuretic Hormone

Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone or SIADH is a health condition that causes excess production of antidiuretic hormone, which regulates how the body conserves and releases fluids. People with this issue tend to retent water rather than excreting it in urination as usual. This makes the levels of some electrolytes, including potassium and sodium, to drop and cause hyponatremia. In fact, hyponatremia is a serious complication of SIADH and causes many other signs of this disorder, such as vomiting, nausea, and muscle cramping. Severe cases can be characterized by coma, seizures, and confusion. [10]
