Hypernatremia Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Severe watery diarrhea

Hypernatremia is also caused by severe watery diarrhea. Diarrhea is a loose and watery bowel movement which may occur urgently or with a sense of urgency. The kind of diarrhea that causes hypernatremia is the acute diarrhea were you have to go to the toilet now and then. Before you know what is happening, you are already dehydrated, and it leads to hypernatremia. Normal diarrhea will improve on its own after some few days but an acute one which can lead to hypernatremia, when not attended to quickly, can last longer than a few days. [2]
