Common Triggers of Restless Leg Syndrome

Parkinson’s Disease

Certain scientists believe that Parkinson’s disease and restless legs syndrome would be triggered by a similar issue. More specifically, both conditions can be a result of disruptions in a neurotransmitter called dopamine. Nevertheless, the link is still not fully clear. The incidence of developing restless legs syndrome in those with Parkinson’s disease can range from 0 percent up to 21 percent. In general, Parkinson’s disease usually involves akathisia, or a sense of restlessness, that might overlap with restless legs syndrome. This makes it challenging to differentiate between them. When you develop both disorders, Parkinson’s disease often becomes clear before restless legs syndrome happens.[5]
