10 Causes of Anemia You Need to Know

Lack of Folate

One other cause of vitamin deficiency anemia is a shortage of folate. Folate, also known as vitamin B-9 plays a crucial role in the formation of red blood cells in the bone marrow.

As mentioned earlier, red blood cells are vital in the human body as they contain a substance called hemoglobin which carries oxygen around the body. When vitamins like folate are absent or not enough in the body, there will be difficulty in producing red blood cells, and when this happens, there will not be enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to the body’s tissues. The type of anemia caused by this condition is vitamin deficiency anemia.[6]
