What Is the Medicare-Approved Amount?

Medicare-Approved Amount for Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B covers expenses for preventive care services, outpatient hospital visits, doctor’s visits for other medical services, and durable medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and canes. As of 2021, you need to pay a premium of $148.5 per month and meet the deductible of $203 per year before Medicare pays for any treatment. If you choose a nonparticipating provider, you would need to pay extra amounts for the items or services. For instance, you visit a Medicare-participating provider for a leg pain. The appointment is paid by Medicare Part B. You have already met the annual deductible for this plan, so you will pay 20 percent coinsurance of the Medicare-approved amount. After that, the doctor refers you to a specialist, who does not accept assignments and would charge you an additional amount of maximum 15 percent for their services. You are responsible for paying this difference. [6]
