What is Lactic Acid

Sources of Lactic Acid

In addition to muscles, there are many other sources of lactic acid in the body. Studies have shown that this substance can be produced by red blood cells as well. This is because they do not have mitochondria, which plays an important role in aerobic respiration. Some bacteria species in our hut can respire anaerobically. Around 0.01 to 1.8 percent of them might generate the acid as a waste product. The more sugar you take in, the more lactic acid these bacteria generate. Last but not least, lactic acid can be found in some fermented dairy products. These include kefir, yogurt, or buttermilk. [3]
