The Function of the Liver

Bile Production

The liver can help your digestive system through the production of bile, a mixture of bilirubin, cholesterol, salts, and water. Stored in the gallbladder, it helps your small intestine break down and digests important substances such as vitamins and fats. Bile moves through your bile ducts to the duodenum in which it can emulsify large fatty masses. This process turns large clumps into smaller ones, making them much easier for your body to digest. [6]
