The Function of the Liver

Immunological Function

A basic immune system consists of many different organs, and liver is one of them. This part contains a high number of Kupffer cells, a form of fixed macrophage that is involved in your immune activities. They are responsible for capturing and destroying potential disease-causing components that enter your liver from the digestive tract. These include worn-out blood cells, cellular debris, parasites, fungi, as well as bacteria. A large amount of blood going through the liver enables Kupffer cells to perform these tasks very quickly and effectively. That’s why people with liver issues might have a weaker immune system and can be more susceptible to infections. [3]
