Sciatica Exercise for Pain Relief

Sciatica is the uncomfortable pain that radiates along the path of your sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in your body. It can be a sign of many possible health issues in your hip, pelvis, or back. People with this condition would experience burning, sharp, or shooting sensations and weakness in their legs. Sudden movements would worsen the pain. Sciatica can be severe or mild, depending on the underlying causes. Fortunately, there are many treatment options, including physical therapies. Below are 8 simple exercises and stretches that you can do at home to relieve sciatica pain.

Seated Spinal Twist

This is a simple yet very effective exercise to improve your spinal flexibility and ease the sciatica pain. The posture will involve your joints, shoulders, and pelvis. Firstly, sit on the floor with both legs straight in front of the body. Bend one leg at your knee and put the foot on the outside of the other knee. Twist your body to the bent knee while putting the opposite elbow at the outside of your bent knee. This would help you stretch deeply. You need to stay in this position for at least 20 seconds before returning to the initial position. Do the same thing with the other body side. [1]
