What Is Melasma?
Melasma, also known as mask of pregnancy or chloasma, is a common skin condition. It is characterized by uneven, blotchy, and dark tone on areas of the skin exposed to the sun. The face is the mainly affected part. This skin issue is more common in females than males and typically occurs for the first time in pregnant women or in people between 20 to 50 years old. While melasma is medically harmless, symptoms would make people feel embarrassed and withdraw from social situations. [1]
