Pravastatin – Uses, Dosage, Side Effects and More

Recommended Dosages for Pravastatin

You can get pravastatin in the tablet form, which is available in 4 strengths: 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg. The medication should be taken with a restricted diet that is low in cholesterol and saturated fat. The dosage for pravastatin can vary by age:

– For children between 8 and 13 years old: one tablet of 20 mg per day

– For adolescents between 14 and 18 years old: one tablet of 40 mg per day

– For adults: one tablet of 40 mg per day

People with kidney issues should start with a dosage of 10 mg per day to lower the risk of kidney damage. This can be increased to 20 mg per day as long as kidney function is still normal. In the elderly above 75 years old, the recommended dosage should be reduced due to the risk of renal impairment.  [4]
