Pravastatin – Uses, Dosage, Side Effects and More

How Does Pravastatin Work?

Pravastatin belongs to a class of drugs called statins. It works by changing how the body makes cholesterol. More specifically, the medication inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, which is used by the body to release cholesterol and fatty substances. By doing this, the body cannot produce as much cholesterol, which subsequently reduces the total amount of cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol in the blood. The medication can increase the level of HDL or good cholesterol in the blood. These effects may reduce the risk of heart issues, such as stroke, heart attack, and atherosclerosis. [3]
