Not performing any surgery or medication on pregnant women is a general rule, so you’d better hold off on laser eye surgery after delivering your baby. But why is it? Firstly, hormone changes during pregnancy can increase the thickness and curvature of your corneas, making the refractive correction inaccurate. Therefore, a vision problem may recur after giving birth, resulting in additional eye surgery. Secondly, gestational diabetes and other pregnancy complications can cause blurred vision or blood vessels in the eye to leak, increasing the difficulty of the surgery. Thirdly, medication after laser eye surgery, like antibiotics and steroid eye drops, is unsafe for fetus growth and can elevate the risks of developing birth defects. [6]
