Insect and Bug Bite Identification

Sand Flies

Sand fly bites are different from those of other fly species. They typically appear alone, but would also present in clusters of red, small blisters or bumps. You may feel pain and itchiness. In some regions, especially subtropics or tropics, these bugs would spread a parasitic infection called leischmaniasis. This condition would lead to ulcers and skin lesions. [9]

Scabies

Scabies is a parasite infestation. Microscopic mites are the main cause. In people with these bugs, female scabies may penetrate deep into the epidermis and lay eggs. A scabies bite often appears as a rash with raised, small blisters or pustules. You may feel very itchy. If you have never had this problem before, it would take a few weeks until you notice the rash after being exposed. However, if you have had it before, you would notice a rash within 1 to 4 days after the exposure.

Scabies can be spread through direct skin contact in an extended period. They are also very contagious. Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures if your family members or you have this parasite infestation. If you notice a bite, visit a healthcare provider to get a precise diagnosis and proper treatment. Permethrin anti-parasitic ream is often suggested for treating a scabies bite. [10]
