IBS – Foods to Eat and Foods to Avoid

Insoluble Fiber

Dietary fiber may add bulk to the stool and help with constipation and digestion. Fiber-rich foods include fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Fiber can be divided into two main forms: soluble and insoluble. While most plant-based foods contain both types of fiber, several foods are only high in each form. For instance, insoluble fiber is high in veggies and whole grains, while soluble fiber is high in oats, fruits, and beans.

Soluble fiber is good for people with IBS. On the other hand, insoluble fiber would worsen bloating and pain caused by this digestive condition. But keep in mind that fiber tolerance can vary from person to person. Make sure to try yourself and consult your doctor to make the right choice. [3]
