GMO Facts – Pros and Cons

Antibiotic Resistance

Many scientists usually modify seeds and plants with antibiotic-resistant genes during the genetic engineering process. The main goal is to prevent insects and bugs from damaging crops. However, this would bring antibiotic resistance as a side effect. Bacteria and other microorganisms in these veggies, fruits, or nuts would resist antibiotic medications. This makes it much more difficult to kill them when you are suffering from an infection. It is estimated that millions of people are affected by antibiotic-resistant germs each year. Among these, thousands of people are killed. [8]
