Common Facts about Immunoglobulins

Immunoglobulin E (Ig E)

The population of immunoglobulin E found in the blood is near insignificant. This is due to the fact that they can’t be found wandering where there is no allergy or parasitic attack. Ig E is more prevalent in parts of the lungs, mucosal membranes, and skin. When the body is attacked by parasites or allergens, Immunoglobulin E binds to the substance and triggers a cascade of chemical reactions which stimulate other white blood cells (basophils and eosinophils) and mast cells. Before long, signs of an allergy become evident. [4]
