Is Nipple Stimulation Effective?
There is currently no definitive answer on the effectiveness of nipple stimulation for inducing labor. There are not many studies on this subject. Even the existing ones are out-of-date, extensive, and have low sample sizes. In addition, it can be challenging to determine whether natural induction techniques are effective since they are done when women are in full-term. A recent study suggested that nipple stimulation seemed to reduce the length of labor and lower the chance of caesarean sections. Another study found that this method may be effective in increasing the amount of hormone oxytocin in the body, which eventually helps with labor. [4]
