Possible Drug Interactions with Astragalus
Astragalus would make the immune system become more active. Therefore, it would reduce the effects and effectiveness of medications that suppress the immune system, such as steroids. This herb also has similar effects to estrogen, the main sex hormone in women. As a result, taking it would affect cancer treatments that work by suppress estrogen. Antiviral drugs, such as amantadine and acyclovir, may interact with astragalus as well. Other medications that may interact with astragalus include anticoagulants, high blood pressure drugs, diuretics, and lithium. [8]
