Side Effects of Too Much Vitamin D

2Increased Levels of Blood Calcium

Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium from food in the diet. When you take in too much vitamin D, calcium levels in the body may increase excessively as well. This condition is also known as hypercalcemia, which would lead to possibly dangerous health issues, such as frequent urination, excessive thirst, confusion, dizziness, tiredness, stomach cramp, nausea, and vomiting. Normal calcium levels should be between 8.5 and 10.5 mg/dL. Calcium levels from 10.5 to 13.9 mg/dL are mild or moderate, while levels above 14 mg/dL are severe. [3]

Nausea and Vomiting

Many people with high vitamin D levels may feel vomiting, nauseated, and have a poor appetite. These side effects may be linked to excessive blood calcium. Nevertheless, they do not happen in everyone with high levels of blood calcium. Scientists have found that those people who take in too much vitamin D3, a special form of vitamin D, may be especially prone to these health issues. [4]
