Deep Squat: Benefits, Muscles Worked, & How to Do It

Which muscles Do a Deep Squat Target?

The deep squat mostly targets muscles in the lower body and trunk.

– Knees: When you lower the body into a deep squat and straighten the knees to return to the initial position, it involves the quads on the front of the thighs to control how you bend the knee joints

– Trunk: To keep the spine extended and straight, muscles in the back have to be involved

– Hips: Most of the force to do a deep squat comes from the glutes. The exercise also involves the hamstrings. Both of these muscle groups may work together to control the hips during descent and ascent

– Ankles: To pull the shin bones forward and keep the body over both feet, the anterior tibialis on the front of the shins is involved. In addition, the calf muscles are targeted [4]
