Osteoarthritis
Another common cause of collarbone pain is osteoarthritis. This condition can be a result of gradual wear and tear on both the sternoclavicular and acromioclavicular joints. Osteoarthritis can also be caused by a previous injury or repeated use over a long period. In addition to pain, you might also experience stiffness. Symptoms often develop slowly and become worse over time. Some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications like naproxen or ibuprofen would help alleviate inflammation and pain. Steroid injections can also bring the same effects, but there might be several side effects. In rare cases, surgery can be suggested to repair the affected joint. [2]
