What You Need to Know about Coronary Arteries

Functions of Coronary Arteries

The main function of the right coronary artery is to make sure blood can be circulated properly to the heart muscles or myocardium. This plays an important role in the overall functioning of the body. Specific roles of each branch of the coronary artery are as follow:

– Right coronary artery: to transport oxygenated blood to the right atrium and walls of your ventricles.

– Posterior descending artery: to transport oxygenated blood to the inferior part of the septum and inferior wall of your left ventricle.

– Left main coronary artery: to transport oxygenated blood to the left circumflex and left anterior descending artery.

– Left circumflex artery: to transport oxygenated blood to the left atrium and walls of your ventricles.

– Left anterior descending artery: to transport oxygenated blood to the anterior part of the septum, the left atrium, and the walls of your ventricles. [4]
