Complications
Since Marfan syndrome would affect almost all body parts, it might lead to many complications. The most serious problems often involve the blood vessels and heart. Defective connective tissue would weaken the large artery, which is responsible for transporting blood. In the long run, it would cause valve malformations, aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm, and many other conditions. Possible eye complications include retina issues, early-onset cataracts, and lens dislocation.
Marfan syndrome can also increase the risk of irregular curves in your spinal system, such as scoliosis. It would affect the usual growth of the ribs, which eventually make your breastbone to become sunken into your chest or protrude. Low back pain and foot pain are also common in people with this condition. Due to the effect on the aorta, pregnant women with Marfan syndrome can also experience some complications.
