What Is Caudal Regression Syndrome?
Caudal regression syndrome is a rare condition that happens when the lower part of the spine does not fully develop before birth. This area consists of some parts of the bones and spine that form the tailbone, legs, hips, and some important organs in the lower region of the body. This is a congenital disorder, meaning that it occurs at birth. It is estimated that around 1 to 2 out of 100000 newborn babies is affected with this syndrome. Caudal regression syndrome is also known as sacral agenesis due to the underdevelopment of the sacrum, a bone that links the pelvis to the backbone. [1]
