What is Chronic Inflammation?

Acute Versus Chronic Inflammation

As mentioned above, acute inflammation can be seen as a good type as it is important for the healing process, while chronic inflammation is a bad one as it is related to many chronic conditions. Acute inflammation tends to occur after an injury or illness. It indicates that the immune system is working to protect the body against foreign invaders. Typical signs include stiffness, bruising, warmth, swelling, bumps, tenderness, pain, and redness. These symptoms may last several days to several months, depending on the severity and underlying cause. On the other hand, chronic inflammation may last for years or even the whole life and lead to more serious complications. [3]
