Types of Parkinson’s Disease

Multiple System Atrophy

Multiple system atrophy refers to a group of neurodegenerative conditions that deteriorate the body’s systems over time. They typically occur in those who are in their mid-50s. Some signs may suggest multiple system atrophy instead of Parkinson’s disease, such as quicker progression or poor response to medications for treating Parkinson’s disease. There is currently no specific test to diagnose this type of Parkinson’s disease. Instead, a doctor will depend on certain clinical features and symptoms. These include:

– Lack of coordination

– Impaired autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for bladder function and blood pressure

– Different degrees of typical symptoms in Parkinson’s disease [7]
