What Is ADHD?

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This is common that affects how the brain processes information. Most people are diagnosed with the condition when they are children. People with ADHD tend to behave in an impulsive, hyperactive, and inattentive manner. However, there is no comprehensive definition, and these behaviors may vary a lot from person to person and would change over time. [1]

Causes and Risk Factors for ADHD

Scientists have found the main causes of ADHD. Certain possible links include a family history or genetic factors, low weight at birth, exposure to smoke during pregnancy, and exposure to toxins in the environment. Men are more likely to be diagnosed with this condition than women. However, it does not necessarily mean that more men have ADHD. In some cases, certain social expectations would encourage males to manifest behaviors and symptoms that can be more easily determined by the diagnostic criteria. [2]
