Trigeminal Neuralgia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

What Is Trigeminal Neuralgia?

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic and painful disorder that affects the trigeminal nerve. In general, we have two trigeminal nerves, which are located on each side of our face. They play a key role in transmitting the signals for pain between the brain and the face. Each trigeminal nerve consists of three branches: chin, midface, and forehand. Trigeminal neuralgia could affect one or more of these branches at the same time. In general, this condition causes intense pain on the face. Even mild stimulation, such as shaving or brushing, would trigger the sensation. [1]
