Dementia with Lewy Bodies
Dementia with Lewy bodies usually happens in those people who are over 50 years old. It is characterized by significant problems with focus, memory, and thinking. Other possible symptoms include REM sleep behaviour disorder, recurrent and detailed visual hallucinations, repeated falls, apathy, anxiety, depression, false beliefs or delusions, as well as some behaviour changes like aggression and agitation. Both dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease occur with the presence of abnormal groups of proteins called Lewy bodies in the brain. Those with dementia with Lewy bodies typically experience symptoms of Parkinsonism as well, such as stiffness, slowness, and tremors. However, these signs are not important for making a diagnosis.
