Types of Depression

Perinatal Depression

Perinatal depression is a form that typically happens during pregnancy or after childbirth. The main cause can be directly attributed to hormonal changes, which results in mood swings. In addition, physical discomfort and the lack of sleep during pregnancy or delivery can be possible reasons. Common symptoms of perinatal depression include exhaustion, rage, anger, anxiety, sadness, self-harm thoughts, or extreme worry. Family support is important to reduce the risk of perinatal depression. Those people who have had other forms of depression before pregnancy can also be at a higher risk. [4]
