Tourette’s Syndrome Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Phonic Tics

Phonic or vocal tics are another common sign of Tourette’s syndrome. Simple cases are often characterized by utterances or meaningless noises. Some common examples include hiccupping, sniffing, grunting, throat clearing, coughing, or blowing. Complex vocal tics are phrases or words that repeat other’s own statements, echo what other people say, or include obscenities. Those tics could be suppressed and improved when the patients are distracted, but they would also reappear anytime. [4]
