PRP Injection

A common alternative to steroids is PRP or platelet-rich plasma. This substance is produced by separating different components in the blood. PRP mostly consists of platelets, the main part of blood that is naturally rich in growth factors. When injected into the affected area, they can stimulate and speed up the healing process. While this is quite a new technique, it is most effective. Before starting, your doctor will take a blood sample and remove platelets with a machine. Once they are separated, the surgeon will re-injected the platelets back to the damaged tendon. The whole procedure often takes around 10 to 20 minutes. You might feel mild discomfort or pain during the injection. [12]
