Causes of Stomach Ulcers
Helicobacter Pylori
Up to 75 percent of the reported cases of stomach ulcers are caused by bacteria called Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori. When these elements grow in the stomach, they could cause damage to the mucus coating, which protects the tissues that line your duodenum and stomach. As a result, digestive acids can penetrate and lead to ulcers and inflammation. H. pylori also cause gastric cells to develop in the duodenum lining, thus releasing pepsin and acid. Bacteria would be spread via water, eating utensils, food, and saliva. [3]
