Stage Five
Stage five of Lewy body dementia is characterized by moderately severe cognitive decline. Patients usually experience significant memory loss that would cause many problems in their daily activities at work and school. For instance, they might find it hard to recall important details, such as phone numbers, addresses, and names of friends or family members. Other typical symptoms of stage five include significant disorientation and confusion, persistent delusions that make them become confused and paranoid more often. Fever is also not uncommon because these patients are at a higher risk of skin issues and infections. As a result, they cannot do simple tasks like bathing or eating, and thus cannot live alone anymore. 24-hour supervision might be required to provide self-care and assistance. This can have a devastating effect on the patients and their families. [5]
