Primary Ovarian Insufficiency – Causes, Risk Factors, Symptoms, Treatment and More

Treatment Options for Primary Ovarian Insufficiency

Supplements

Vitamin D and calcium play a key role in bone health. Since women with primary ovarian insufficiency are at higher risk of osteoporosis, taking these supplements can help prevent this health issue. Before taking them, make sure to consult your doctor to take a bone density test to get an approximate recommendation for the daily intake. There is no consensus on the optimal amount of vitamin D. Ideally, adult women should take anywhere between 600 and 700 IU per day, through supplements, food, or sunlight. For calcium, it is recommended to take around 1 gram per day for women between 19 and 50 years old, and 1.2 grams for women older than 51 years old. [7]
