Primary Ovarian Insufficiency Diagnosis
The symptoms of primary ovarian insufficiency are not clear in many people. A doctor may suspect the disease when you notice problems with conceiving or irregular periods. To diagnose this condition, a physical exam, especially around the pelvic areas, are needed. Some questions concerning toxin exposures, family history, and menstrual cycle should be answered. The following tests can be done to help diagnose primary ovarian insufficiency:
– Hormone levels: A doctor may measure the levels of some hormones, such as estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone, or prolactin.
– Pregnancy test to check for unexpected pregnancy when you missed a period or are at the childbearing age.
– Genetic tests to look for abnormal mutations in the chromosomes or genetic changes. [6]
