Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome is hard to diagnose because there is no comprehensive test for this purpose. Instead, a doctor needs to perform a diagnosis of elimination. This means he or she has to rule out all other possible causes before reaching the final conclusion. In general, irritable bowel syndrome is a chronic disease occurring in large intestine and results in constipation, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, or abdominal pain. Based on diagnostic criteria, you should experience symptoms for at least 6 months before getting a formal evaluation. Also, discomfort should occur at least 3 days per month in the last 3 months before diagnosis with irritable bowel syndrome. [2]
