Thoracoscopic surgery, also known as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery or VATS is a minimally-invasive procedure. It involves making one to three small incisions in the chest area. The main goal is to redirect the accumulated fluids into the abdomen, where it would be removed easily by the body. VATS is an effective option for those cases that recur because of malignancy or hard to drain. During the procedure, your doctor would insert antibiotic or sterile talc to reduce the risk of occurrence.[8]
