What Is Chronic Bronchitis?

What Is Chronic

Bronchitis is a condition that causes inflammation in the lining of the bronchial tubes, which are responsible for transporting air from and to the lungs. Along with acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis is a form of this disease. It is more serious and progresses over time instead of occurring unexpectedly. People with this type often experience many episodes over a long period. This leads to excessive inflammation and buildup of sticky mucus in the airways. As a result, the airflow into the lungs can be restricted and cause breathing issues. If left untreated, chronic bronchitis would cause emphysema, a form of lung disease. [1]
