Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Tremors – Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and More

Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis Tremors

Tremors are characterized by involuntary contractions of muscles that lead to a back-and-forth, rhythmic movement. In addition to the hands, they may affect other areas, such as the trunk, head, vocal cords, and legs. The symptoms may become worse over time or come and go. There are 2 main types of tremors with different symptoms:

– Postural tremor: Shaking happens when you stand or sit and when the muscles are keeping the body against gravity.

– Intention tremor: Shaking happens when you use your hands to reach for something. This is the most common form of tremor in multiple sclerosis.

When tremors affect the tongue, lip, or jaw, they may lead to dysarthria (unable to speak clearly) or dysphagia (unable to swallow). In most cases, tremor symptoms may affect daily tasks and could be embarrassing for many people. [2]
