Low Estrogen: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Types of Estrogen

There are different forms of estrogen. These include:

– Estradiol: This is the most common form in women during the reproductive periods. Low levels of estradiol may lead to cardiovascular issues and weight gain, while high levels would cause depression, osteoporosis, reduced sex drive, acne, as well an increased risk of breast and uterine cancer.

– Estrone: This form is present in post-menopausal periods. It is weak and can be converted into other types by the body.

– Estriol: The levels of this estrogen increase during pregnancy and peak before delivery. It plays an important role in the growth of the uterus and delivery. [2]
