Lip Licker’s Dermatitis – All You Need to Know

What Is Lip Licker’s Dermatitis?

Lip licker’s dermatitis, also known as lip licking eczema or lip lick cheilitis, is a skin condition that causes red, dry skin around the mouth. It occurs when you lick your lips constantly. While this makes your lips wet temporarily, the saliva would evaporate quickly after several minutes and make these areas become drier. When the lips get dry too frequently, regular licking may affect the normal barrier activity and lead to inflammation. This constant inflammation may eventually increase the risk of lip licker’s dermatitis. [1]
