Home Remedies to Cope with Headaches

Increasing water intake

Instead of taking pain killers, staying hydrated is an alternative way to treat headaches. According to scientists, water can be an aid to alleviate headache symptoms, particularly dehydration headaches. Dehydration headache occurs when your body dehydrates. To stop brain tissue from losing more water, your brain temporally contracts and pulls away from the skull. The mechanism could trigger pain receptors and cause the sensation of pain in your head. As a result, increasing water intake to stay hydrated can be helpful to relieve headaches. Don’t be overhydrated either, since drinking too much water affects normal kidney function, making kidney hard to excrete excess water from the body. While drinking, take it slowly to avoid vomiting. Electrolyte drinks are recommended because they replace lost electrolytes quickly, and creates electrolyte balance in the body. [6]
