Using essential oils
Essential oil is a highly concentrated liquid that is extracted from the leaves, flowers, roots, and stems of a plant. Nowadays, it is widely used by many countries for massage, cosmetics, cooking, and wound care. Many people use essential oils as a home remedy for headaches, and it is proven to be an effective way due to its wide range of medicinal properties. [7]
Peppermint oil is probably the most common essential oil that is used for treating headaches. One of the organic compounds in peppermint oil called menthol could help relax the muscle and suppress the pain. In addition, menthol also provides a cooling sensation on the skin, making you feel more comfortable. Dilute peppermint oil with another carrier oil, and apply it to your temples, or forehead. You could gently massage the area until it is fully absorbed.
Lavender essential oil is considered to have a similar effect when comes to headaches treatment. With a soothing and calming scent, it helps relieve migraine pain and reduce the disease frequency. Besides topical use, inhalation is the fasted way to administer lavender essential oil into the bloodstream. Add a few drops of diluted oils in a diffuser, and diffuse in a good-ventilated place. Don’t apply it directly to your nose because it might result in irritation or inflammation. [8]
