Flatfoot (Pes Planus) – Facts to Know

Types of Pes Planus

There are three main types of pes planus:

– Flexible pes planus: This is the most common form. The arches in the feet only appear when you lift them off the ground. The soles only touch the ground completely once the feet are placed on the ground. It often begins in childhood and does not trigger pain.

– Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction: This form is often acquired in adulthood as tendon connecting the interior ankle and calf muscle is torn, swollen, or injured.

– Tight Achilles tendon: The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle and heel bone. When it is too tight, pain can occur when running and walking. [2]
