Endometrial Cancer: Risk Factors, Stages and Treatments

Obesity

Obesity contributes to the onset of endometrial cancer, and approximately 40% of confirmed cases are related to obesity. Compared with normal-weight women, people having a body mass index (BMI) between 25 to 29.9 get a 2-fold higher incidence of endometrial cancer, and people having a BMI over 30 are associated with a 3-fold higher increase of endometrial cancer risk. This originates in imbalanced hormone levels. Excess body weight could bring up the level of estrogen. When estrogen dominates with progesterone deficiency in the body, the lining of the uterus gets thicker and thicker, forming a tumor on the endometrium. [2]
